These two were supposedly based on a real couple, who said they wouldn’t board a life boat as long as there were younger people still aboard the ship. They both went below deck, presumably to their room, and that’s the last time they were seen.
-cries-
Their names were Isidor Straus and Rosalie Ida Blun. When I went to the Titanic exhibition we all had like a boarding pass that talked about a person that was in the boat, I got Mrs. Isidor Straus, and at the end of the of the exhibition there was a list of names of people that survived and those who didn’t, so we had to find the names on the lists. The Straus’s had traveled to Europe with their daughter Beatrice and were returning home (New York), they were also accompanied by the maid, Ellen Bird(survivor) and John Farthing(victim), their manservant. It turns out that Beatrice did not return home with the parents (read above). They were first class and they owned Macy’s department store in New York City.
I just googled the story above, and it’s totally true. This is so adorably sad.
